COP27 Host Can Promote Natural Gas at the Summit

COP27 host Egypt and 16 natural gas exporting governments announced that they would use climate negotiations to promote fossil gas as the “perfect solution” for climate change and energy security. At the meeting of the Natural Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held in Cairo, Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek-el Molla said, “As the cleanest hydrocarbon (fossil) fuel, natural gas is seen as the perfect solution to strike the right balance. Natural gas will continue to play an important role in the future.” The International Energy Agency (IEA) recommended that new natural gas fields should not be sought so that the world does not lose its chance to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
