The UN Environment Program (UNEP) has published its Emissions Gap 2022 report, which annually evaluates the difference between Paris climate targets and actual emission reductions. According to the report, climate commitments face the world with a temperature increase of 2.4-2.6°C by the end of this century. The updated commitments since COP26 in Glasgow represent a reduction of less than one percent of projected greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. To limit global warming to 1.5°C, a 45 percent emission reduction is needed. The report also reveals that urgent sector and system-wide transformations in the electricity supply, industry, transport, building sectors, and food and financial systems will help avert climate catastrophe.
